Local residents and guests plant trees at Heesh Garden to mark the International Day of the Disappeared — 31 August 2026.

The Fig Gardens is an environmental and memorial initiative led by Dar Ebla - The House of Arts and Culture. Working with diverse communities across Syria, it plants and dedicates trees in memory of people who were killed and for those who have been forcibly disappeared or remain missing. The Fig Gardens transform personal loss into a living space of documented stories and collective remembrance.

Dar Ebla is an independent cultural institution based in Damascus. Through writing, visual arts and community projects, it helps the people of Syria preserve memory, share their experiences and build connections after decades of repression, displacement and loss.

With your support, The Fig Gardens can plant more trees, creating more living memorials, and give families a space to connect, remember and start to heal.

The Syria Campaign is running this fundraiser on behalf of Ebla House of Arts and Culture.
