A new report exposes shocking evidence of the chain of command behind crimes against humanity at Syria’s most notorious prison, Sednaya. The report by the Association of Detainees and the Missing in Sednaya Prison (ADMSP), estimates that
more than 30,000 detainees were either executed or died as a result of torture, lack of medical care or starvation there between 2011 and 2018. The regime is believed to have executed at least 500 further detainees between 2018 and 2021.
The report exposes the inner workings of one of the most clandestine and well-guarded places in Syria. It highlights how primitive salt mortuaries – dehydrating the bodies of people killed from torture, scabies or other forms of neglect in salt – were created to store dead bodies of victims in the absence of refrigerators.
The international community must use this new information to pursue war crimes trials and to challenge governments that are moving to re-establish relations with a regime that continues to commit these horrific atrocities.
Email your MP here and ask that they push for international accountability to stop the regime and stand up to its powerful ally Russia.
