Ask your MP to speak out for a ceasefire in Lebanon and Palestine and to stop arms sales to Israel

Civilians are not collateral damage: ask your MP to challenge Keir Starmer to take decisive action towards a ceasefire in Lebanon and Palestine and to stop arms sales to Israel.

As of today, at least 2,672 people in Lebanon have been killed, including 207 Syrian refugees, and 1.2 million have been displaced. These numbers alone do not give a full picture of the extent of the tragedy that hundreds of thousands of civilians, including Syrian and Palestinian refugees, have been enduring for over the past month.

MPs must speak out now and demand that Prime Minister Keir Starmer leads international efforts to push for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and Palestine and stops arms sales to Israel. The UK is currently shipping parts for F-35 fighter jets, which have recently been used to bomb Gaza and are implicated in war crimes.

The UK is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, so it has the power to lead the international community in the ceasefire process.

Ask your MP to speak out for a ceasefire in Lebanon and Palestine and to stop arms sales to Israel

As a concerned constituent, I urge you to speak out in Parliament and demand that Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Minister David Lammy secure an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and Palestine, and stop arms sales to Israel.

As of today,  at least 2,672 people in Lebanon have been killed, including 207 Syrian refugees, and 1.2 million have been displaced. Numbers alone do not reflect the extent of the tragedy that hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians, as well as Syrian and Palestinian refugees, have been experiencing every day.

1.5 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon face systematic discrimination and struggle to find safe shelter. Over 300,000 have been forced to flee the attacks and lack of protection into Syria, where Syrian Network for Human Rights has already documented the arbitrary arrest of 23 people by Assad's regime, into the regime’s detention and torture system.

No part of Syria is safe to return to. The severe risks in regime-held areas are underscored by the fact that nearly 20,000 Syrians have even crossed into northern Syria, outside of regime control, despite a brutal escalation in attacks by Russia and the regime and a growing humanitarian emergency.

As my MP, I urge you to lead the way in showing the UK’s support for civilians and Syrian refugees. It is extremely important that the UK, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, leads the international community in the ceasefire process for Lebanon and Palestine and stops exporting arms to Israel. Keir Starmer’s government is currently shipping parts for F-35 fighter jets, which have been used to bomb Gaza and are implicated in war crimes, killing civilians and contributing to a further escalation of the conflict.

I am horrified by stories like that of Laila, a Syrian refugee who, a couple of weeks ago, decided to return to Syria from Lebanon with her family to escape Israeli bombs. Upon crossing the border, her husband was arrested and forcibly disappeared by the Assad regime. “I wished that my family and I had stayed together on the streets of Lebanon under the missiles rather than return to Syria”, Laila said.

As your constituent, I call on you to speak out in all the ways you can and demand that the UK government achieve a ceasefire in Lebanon and Palestine and stop arms sales to Israel.
