For more than a decade, Bashar al-Assad and his regime committed crimes that shocked the world — bombing hospitals and schools, gassing civilians with chemical weapons, starving communities under siege, and disappearing tens of thousands in torture prisons, such as Saydnaya. Entire cities were wiped out. Millions of Syrians were forced from their homes. Families are still searching for answers about the people they love.

Now, one year on from the fall of the regime, justice is far from a reality. Assad and his regime officials are enjoying life and the freedom impunity permits in Moscow and other safe havens around the world, and even in Syria.

Survivors, families of the disappeared, and Syrians everywhere are urgently demanding justice and accountability. And the world must act now!

We are calling on governments around the world to support the prosecution of Assad and all his senior war criminals who are hiding across the world.

One way to achieve this is a hybrid special court within the Syrian judicial system, supported by the international community that could finally put Assad and all war criminals on trial for their crimes.

Mountains of evidence are ready: Assad’s crimes against humanity are well documented by Syrian civil society organisations, videos recorded by White Helmets rescuers, testimonies from detention and chemical weapons survivors, files smuggled out of prison archives, documents preserved by Syrian lawyers and activists at huge personal risk, and now mass graves uncovered.

The international community has already supported different forms of special courts in countries such as Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Kosovo, and Cambodia. The same can be done for Syria — if the world chooses to make it happen.

Justice is not symbolic. It is vital for keeping us all safe and deterring future crimes. If Assad walks free, every dictator learns the same lesson: you can bomb hospitals, torture children, drop chemical weapons — and still escape accountability.

A Syrian-led hybrid special court could be an opportunity for the international community to end impunity and uphold international law. Let’s stand with survivors and families of all victims and make justice real.

Bring Assad to Justice

To International Governments

For more than a decade, Bashar al-Assad and his regime committed war crimes and crimes against humanity with impunity. And now he and his officials are enjoying life and the freedom impunity permits in Moscow and other safe havens around the world, and even in Syria.

Now, one year on from the fall of the regime, there is an opportunity for justice.

Survivors, families of the disappeared, and Syrians everywhere are urgently demanding justice and accountability. And the world must act now!

A hybrid special court within the Syrian judicial system, supported by the international community, could finally put Assad and all Syria’s war criminals on trial.

If Assad walks free, every dictator learns the same lesson: you can bomb hospitals, torture children, drop chemical weapons — and still escape accountability.

Urge your government to support a Syrian-led hybrid special court and help protect international law. Let’s stand with survivors and families of all victims and make justice real.
