We are at a turning point for Syria. The media and international community have become jaded to the extreme suffering of civilians – and if the US government turns a blind eye to the Syrian regime’s torture and bombs, it’s in danger of emboldening Assad and other states with dire human rights records. Already some governments are threatening to force refugees to return to Syria – even though they face arbitrary detention or even death in Syria.

That’s why over 30 Syrian human rights groups have written to the President urging him to do right by the Syrian people who have endured years and years of suffering. Will you show your support and sign as well to urge Biden to act on Syria before it’s too late?

Dear Mr. President,

In 2022, civilians are still being bombed to death by the Syrian regime and Russia, even as they suffer from the COVID pandemic. More than 100,000 people are arbitrarily detained and endure extreme torture, and millions remain forcibly displaced – many in dire camps.

Since 2011, over 350,000 civilians have been killed and 7 million more fled the country. But the Biden administration has been silent in the face of devastating human rights abuses – and even silent as some US allies shake hands with the criminal Assad regime.

There is so much the United States can do to help Syrians and to prevent ongoing atrocities. As a member of the UN Security Council, the US can turn up the heat on Assad and his allies to stop the attacks and free detainees. You can deter US partners in the middle east from whitewashing the regime, and spearhead historic judicial war crimes proceedings.

We urge your administration to prove that the US is still committed to protecting human rights in Syria and pursuing justice for Syrians.

Signed,

Sign the letter calling on President Biden to defend human rights under attack in Syria

To: President Joe Biden

There is still so much the United States can do to help Syrians who have suffered a devastating amount over the past decade and to prevent ongoing atrocities.

I support Syrian human rights groups calling on your administration to do more to protect human rights in Syria and to pursue justice at the highest levels for Syrian victims and survivors of war crimes.
