The hope for a peaceful Syria rooted in justice hangs in the balance. The UN and international governments must act now to support Syrians in their efforts to stop spiralling violence and protect the hard-won opportunity to rebuild the country after so many decades of war.
The country is on the brink of civil war and action is needed now to save lives.
In Southern Syria, armed groups have carried out killings, sniper attacks, and forced people from their homes. People are afraid and the fear is spreading across the country. Israel also attacked our cities and bombed Damascus, claiming to protect the Druze minority but in reality deepening divisions and fueling the conflict.
Syrians are calling at this moment, where there is an opportunity to build a new country, for an end to the killing, for justice and a national dialogue, that includes women, minorities and all people, so that they can hold the perpetrators of crimes — past and present — to account.
Stand with the victims, survivors, and their families. Urge the UN and world leaders to push an end to all violence, including Israeli attacks, and support a just and democratic Syria.
Update – August 13, 2025
Once month on, Suwayda province in southern Syria is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis.
Between July 13 and August 1, at least 1,013 civilians were killed in Suwayda Governorate (including 26 children and 47 women), and 986 people have been injured. Frontline responders have been attacked, killed or kidnapped.
Since mid-July, all main access roads have been cut off, placing the governorate under near-total siege. Essential goods are heavily restricted, public services are collapsing, and the health system is on the brink of total failure.
Hospitals are out of service, bakeries have closed, and according to the UN over 93,000 civilians have been displaced —though independent media estimate the number to be over 150,000.
Immediate intervention is needed from the international community to prevent further civilian deaths, protect humanitarian operations, and end the siege.
